The Sinner's Side Prior to salvation, I definitely believed in God, but I was skeptical
of most people who called themselves Christians. Based on a few bad experiences,
I'd come to the conclusion that the majority of Christians were nothing but
judgemental hypocrites. I wrote this poem because I hope that those of us who are
Christians will take our walk with God very seriously and think about how our actions
affect our witness.
A Sinner's Request Many times in life we meet people we don't like, and maybe for
good reason. But, we have to remember that God doesn't feel the same way about
people as we do. He hates their sin, but He doesn't hate them. He loves them and
we must depend on Him to help us love them also. If we are going to witness for
Christ, then sinner's need to see His love reflected through us.
A Message From God Every person who has given his/her life to Christ can
probably attest to the fact that sometimes our minds, satan, and even other people
can remind us of who we used to be and the things we used to do. At times you may
have even felt inferior to other Christians with less colorful pasts. This poem serves
as a reminder that no matter what you did or didn't do as a sinner, we were all in the
same boat and were all in need of a Savior.
Metamorphosis If you've read my testimony, you know that I mentioned being
depressed and suicidal at one point in my life. This poem is the most personal of all
listed on this page because it's symbolic of my mental state before Christ and the
change that took place after He came into my life.
A Confrontation with God Though the specific events of this poem have never
happened, the feelings portrayed in this poem are very real. If we're honest, there
are times when we get frustrated with God because we don't understand His ways
and things don't work out the way we want them to. But, we must always remember
that He has everything under control - even though it may not seem like it from our
perspective. Remember, God's view of the situation is always better than our own.
While the Storm is Raging We all go through personal storms in life. For anyone
who's currently experiencing a hard time, I hope this poem will encourage you. Know
that your trouble is not in vain. God is working on your behalf.

Words from Yolonda . . .
Many readers have asked me how long I've been writing. Though Soul Matters was
my first serious attempt at writing a novel, I've written poetry for years. Here are
some of the poems I wrote in an unpublished collection entitled Matters of Fact. May
they strengthen and encourage your soul.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)
